Business development was weaker than forecast on the whole in the first
half of 2013. High material prices and lower quantities sold led to an
unexpectedly weak second quarter. The deviation from the forecast is mainly
due to lower-than-expected sales in both Chemicals and Consumer Products.
We have already taken countermeasures, some of which will have a noticeable
effect in the second half of the year. However, in light of continuing
lackluster demand and increased pressures in terms of pricing and
competition, we - as cautious businesspeople - no longer wish to stand by
our forecast of a year-on-year rise in sales and earnings in fiscal year
2013. Instead, we expect annual sales to fall in 2013 and anticipate a
decline in earnings for fiscal year 2013.
The Half-Year Report 2013 and additional information on our outlook will be
published on August 29, 2013.
