(CNN) — At least 12 people were killed and 25 others were wounded in the city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon on Friday, the country’s state news agency said.

The explosion took place near al Takwa mosque in the city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon, and it comes amid sectarian tensions over the Syrian civil war.

The mosque is where a Sunni sheikh known for his links to Syrian rebels delivers his Friday sermon.
